The University of Chicago Medical Center ($14M verdict)
Olusoji Oyedapo, as Independent Administrator of the Estate of Oluwasemilore Praise Oyedapo v. The University of Chicago Medical Center d/b/a UChicago Medicine, 20 L 13797

G&E’s birth injury attorneys won a jury verdict against The University of Chicago Medical Center in a wrongful death lawsuit filed on behalf of the estate of a boy who was born at UCMC with catastrophic brain damage. Following a three-week trial before The Hon. James Varga in Cook County Circuit Court in Illinois, the unanimous verdict found UCMC liable for the death of four-and-a-half-year-old Oluwasemilore “Praise” Oyedapo, awarding over $14 million in damages.

North Carolina Hospital, Obstetrician and Neonatologist

In 2019, G&E represented the family of a 4-year-old boy who had sustained permanent catastrophic brain damage due to provider’s failure to timely deliver, despite clear indications to do so, and further injury when Neonatology staff failed to properly transfer baby for necessary therapeutic hypothermia (“cooling therapy”) within the recommended 6 hours from birth. After plaintiffs’ experts’ depositions, the parties agreed to a high seven-figure settlement.

South Carolina Hospital (high six-figure settlement)

G&E represented the family of a girl born in 2014 whose traumatic delivery led to four avulsed nerves and Horner’s syndrome. The parties settled the matter confidentially for a sum in the high six-figures.

California Hospital (eight-figure settlement)

G&E represented the family of an 8-year-old boy who had sustained permanent injuries at birth. In late 2017, after five and a half weeks of trial, followed by 24 hours of jury deliberations, the parties settled the matter confidentially for an eight-figure amount.

G&E represented the family of a boy who sustained permanent brain damage in 2015 as the result of alleged multiple overdoses of medication, and healthcare providers’ failure to communicate or to monitor and care for mom and baby during labor & delivery. After extensive discovery, the parties agreed to a confidential high seven-figure settlement.

South Carolina Hospital (seven-figure settlement)

G&E represented the family of a baby boy who suffered catastrophic damages at birth when providers failed to respond to mom’s high blood pressure, paramedics failed to recognize placental abruption, and labor & deliver nurse failed to expeditiously contact a physician in an obstetrical emergency (placental abruption). The matter settled confidentially for a seven-figure sum.
