Understanding clients, their needs and those of their stakeholders is essential. Only then we can offer the reliability, speed of service and tailor-made advice that is key to our offering. Having worked in-house, and with so many institutional investors around the globe, greatly assists me in trying to achieve all of this.

Overview

Guus Warringa works with the Firm’s institutional investor clients, focusing on further expanding client relations in every way that makes sense for them. Possibly the firm’s most traveled person—as he visits with clients of the 5 continents from Stockholm to Johannesburg, from to Tokyo to Sao Paulo, and San Francisco to Sydney—Guus reflects not only the firm’s international presence, but also its strong cultural sensitivity and sensibility.

Guus’ significant prior experience as in-house counsel gives him a deep understanding of his clients’ specific challenges and needs.

From 2008 until mid-2015, he served as General Counsel for APG N.V., one of the world’s leading institutional investors with more than Euro 510 billion of pension funds’ assets. He was instrumental in campaigning against the adverse consequences for pension funds of the financial transaction tax and the European Market Infrastructure Regulation (EMIR) on behalf of the European pension fund sector.

Additionally, as a board member of APG Asset Management, Guus was directly involved in the development of APG’s investment strategy and jointly responsible for the risk and return of the company’s investment process.

Before joining APG, Guus served as General Counsel for two internationally operating financial services firms. His first role was General Counsel, Compliance Officer and Company Secretary for the international investment firm AOT N.V. (now Saxo bank N.V.). The company, which at that time focused on stocks, commodities and derivatives, was one of the first option traders to be exchange listed. Following his departure from AOT, Guus joined the pan-European exchange, Euronext (later becoming NYSE Euronext) where, while based in both Amsterdam and Paris, he held several senior positions, working with the securities exchanges of Paris, Lisbon and Brussels and serving as General Counsel for the Dutch exchange.

Outside the Office

My Saturdays are spent refereeing semiprofessional football games for the Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB) and applauding (sometimes) the teams in which my four sons play. I am very happily married to Sabrina, who runs a dental practice in our hometown. Gardening is one of my other interests and hobbies, just like skiing, hiking and being with friends.
